Coach Viig has the word!

Dear Vikings,
We have official started the new season, and I feel we have started very well – just like we ended last season. We have had some very good results in our pre-season friendly games, and a good turn up for practice. We have a new exciting season ahead of us. We are playing in the Premier Division in the IFFC league, as well as entered into the cup tournament. We also have a team in 3rd division in the 5-aside league. We have already won the first trophy of the new season with our great win at Diamond Hill cup in Tianjin, and it is great to see the commitment from all of you both for trips and games – even here in the summer holiday months.
Last year we finished 9th in the Premier division with 22 points, and we showed that with great team spirit and commitment we have a team that is good enough not to be fighting for relegation, but instead be a mid table team, and even putting the top teams under pressure. We have said goodbye to some good players like Teemu, Hugo, Anders B and Lassi, but we have during the summer gotten some new key players. The new official season is scheduled to start in the weekend of September 5/6th against Fortuna 94.
The goals for the season achievements are:
- Finishing 7th or higher in the premier Division.
- Re-establishing our self in the top of the 2nd division of the 5-aside league, being a contender for promotion to 1st division, hopefully with minimum a single season in the 1st division.
- Taking 30+ players and supporters to Singapore for the Vikings cup (including some of our legends re-joining us).
- Being a contender on day 2 of the Vikings Cup, and fighting for a spot in the final.
- Winning the beer competition.
- Having a great trip to Singapore as a team.
- Welcoming a lot of new players and supporters to the Beijing Vikings and Beijing in general.
I know some of the goals are tough, but I personally believe with the team and spirit currently have it can be done, but it will take a lot of effort and commitment from all of us, and we also have to keep fighting in case we hit a bump on the road on the way to success – but we are BEIJING VIKINGS. Success doesn't come easy, so we in the coaching team will do our best to prepare you and the team for the new season. We want to put a team out for our games who are committed to the Vikings, and showing in 110% on the pitch, but also via commitment to the other team activities as practice etc. We also don’t want to forget we are a social team, and we will arrange various team events throughout the season.
We also have to keep supporting our GREAT sponsor THE DEN - so please, make an effort stopping by before and after games.
I look forward to another great season, and to see all of you on the pitch or at THE DEN.
